Neroli’s (Orange Blossom) calming properties make it an important anti-stress agent. It is the hydrolat of choice to quell hysterics in children, babies, and adults. It is mildly sedative to the central nervous system without causing sleepiness, and is used to quiet caffeine jitters. It can be effective to relieve the effects of a sudden shock, and has been used to moderate hyperactivity in children with ADHD. Use on a dampened cloth to wipe the face of babies and toddlers in the throes of a tantrum. It is such a good astringent that one should avoid use directly on very dry skin, or use it in combination with lavender, rose, or geranium.
