Hypoallergenic Products
While no product is completely hypoallergenic, Harrington House products are designed to be as pure as they are effective. Everyone has a unique physiology so even a product with the gentlest of ingredients can cause an allergic reaction in certain individuals. When you see the term hypoallergenic on packaging, it usually refers to products that contain no additional fragrance. Recognizing this, it is strongly recommended that a patch test be performed before using any new product to determine compatibility with your skin.
The Patch Test
Quite simply, it is applying a very small amount of a new product to one of the softer areas of your skin and observing it for a sensitivity reaction. The usual recommendation is to massage a small sample of the product onto the inside of the upper arm, cover with a band-aid, and look for redness or irritation to develop over the next 12-24 hours. If no irritation develops, it is generally safe to use that particular product.
Alternate testing sites include the underside of your wrist, behind your knee, or behind your ear.
