Remember, everyone’s physiology is unique, and trial and error is the best guide.
- Oil comes through makeup.
Cause: Skin type tends to excessive oil production; seasonal changes; hormonal changes; moisturizer too emollient.
Solutions
The most effective solution is to precede makeup application with Super Matte Anti-Shine or Liquid Powder. Foundation Primer helps with less severe oil problems. Eye Primer helps prevent creasing of eye shadow due to oiliness.
• Dusting oil-prone areas with Beryl Translucence Powder before as well as after a foundation powder can help less severe oil problems. Tinted Beryl Finishing Powders contain clay to enhance oil absorption and can be applied alone or after a foundation color powder.
• Use an oil-free moisturizer or gel to make a creamy liquid foundation (see above).
- Chalky, mime-artist look.
Cause: Color choice too light, incorrect applicator tool.
Solutions
• Blend a deeper shade of powder into your foundation.
• Use a fluffier brush.
- Skin appears flaky and dry.
Cause: Skin type tends to dryness; over-washing; skin care neglect.
Solutions
• Make a liquid foundation (see above) from your powder with any skin cream.
• Mist face during the day with Rosewater Hydrosol to hydrate skin.
• The best solution is preventative and the development of balanced, moisturized skin. Use gentle cleansers, cleansing techniques, and toners. Consistent use of appropriate and effective skin care treatments, including regular exfoliation products, is crucial.
- Makeup appears blotchy.
Cause: Powder applied to skin that is excessively oily; moisturizer is too emollient; over-zealous application techniques; brush is in need of cleaning.
Solutions
• Precede makeup application with one of the facial primers: Super Matte Anti-Shine, Liquid Powder, or Foundation Primer.
• Change treatment moisturizers to balance oil. (See situation #1. for more oil control tips.)
• Apply Beryl Translucence Powder before and/or after foundation powder.
• Use less powder.
• Wash brush. Brush should always feel light and feathery on your skin, it should never drag over your skin.
- Pores very obvious, powder settles in creases.
Cause: Sometimes powder shade is too light and increased light reflection highlights facial topography more; failure to smooth powder over the face properly; over-application.
Solutions
• Precede makeup application with one of the facial primers: Foundation Primer, Liquid Powder, or Super Matte Anti-Shine.
• Use a flocked sponge to apply foundation.
• Lightly mist with Rosewater Hydrosol and gently press flocked sponge over face, using a rocking motion of the sponge.
• Use Beryl Translucence Powder as a primer before and/or after application of foundation. Brush away excess powder.
• Choose a more appropriate powder shade to match skin tone, or mix a deeper shade into your foundation.
• Make a liquid foundation from your powder (See Application Instructions above.)
