Hydrosols are unique substances that provide the healing powers of essential oils while elegantly avoiding the potential problems associated with concentrated oils. They are co-products of the distillation process in the production of essential oils and contain the water-soluble components of the source plant. They are amazing liquids with their own unique chemistry and therapeutic properties. For the most part they are anti-inflammatory, relieve irritation, and are excellent for sensitive skin for all ages, from babies to senior adults.
The benefits of Hydrosols are being increasingly extended to animals, especially cats and dogs in the home.
I appreciate Suzanne Catty allowing me to share information from her defining reference text, Hydrosols, The Next Aromatherapy.
NOTE: We receive, and send out, healing waters with no preservatives added. Occasionally, we receive healing waters from our suppliers already preserved with 1% ethyl alcohol. This does not impact its use in any way and will always be noted on the bottle. Either way, storage is always important. A cool dark place is optimum. Refrigeration in hot weather is recommended. Suzanne Catty says that unpreserved hydrosols are very long lasting even without refrigeration, and with a little respect will stay fresh for a minimum of eight months to at least two years from day of distillation. Shelf life guidelines in the accompanying descriptions are those recommended by Ms. Catty. |
